More Than a Meal: How Beacon Heath Neighbours Are Building Community Together

A lovely team of volunteer neighbours comes together once a month to host the Beacon Heath Community Meal as part of our Community Builders project.

With plenty of jobs to do, everyone lends a hand — from meeting and greeting guests, peeling spuds, serving food, to washing up. There are lots of ways people can get involved, giving as little or as much time as suits them.

The team stays connected through WhatsApp, organising the meal by breaking tasks down into bite-sized jobs based on what volunteers enjoy doing most. What makes the project so special is the ripple effect it creates — guests are now joining in too, and it has grown into a real community effort with a warm, welcoming atmosphere.

Even the logo — putting the “eat” into Beacon Heath — was brainstormed together while sharing a delicious meal. That’s what the Community Builders project is all about: creating connection, strengthening community, and bringing people together through shared experiences.

One volunteer shared:

“I really look forwards to helping out. I feel part of the community now and have made new friends.”
