From picking apples in the orchard to pressing their own fresh juice, Magic Carpet’s D’Arts group enjoyed an autumn day filled with creativity, connection and new experiences.
For the adults who attend Magic Carpet, days like these are about more than just a fun day out. They’re opportunities to try something new, share experiences, build relationships and enjoy being part of a group where everyone is encouraged to get involved.
In October, participants from Magic Carpet’s D’Arts group visited organicARTS at West Town Farm in Ide for a day of seasonal activities, bringing together creativity, teamwork and plenty of autumn treats.
The day began in the orchard, where the group picked apples from a delicious selection of varieties before washing, chopping and pressing them to make fresh apple juice. Everyone had the chance to take a turn using the apple press, supporting and encouraging one another as they worked together to make juice to share.
One participant shared their favourite moment:
“My favourite bit was making the apple juice. It was hard to turn the handle!”
The day continued with apple wands, games of apple noughts and crosses, and colourful artworks created to decorate a tree. Later, everyone gathered around the fire to enjoy a seasonal story and roasted apple slices dipped in sugar and spices.
Each activity offered something different: the chance to be creative, learn a new skill, make choices, share an experience or simply enjoy being together.
Why opportunities like this matter
For adults with learning disabilities, finding welcoming opportunities to explore interests, develop relationships and take part in community life can make a real difference. Magic Carpet provides creative experiences where people can participate in their own way, discover what they enjoy and build connections with others.
Days like this are about more than the finished artwork or the apple juice made. They are about creating an environment where people feel welcome, their contributions matter and they can enjoy new experiences alongside others.
Through its creative arts activities, Magic Carpet helps adults with learning disabilities and people experiencing mental health difficulties to express themselves, connect with others and feel part of their community.
Help us make more moments like this possible
Experiences such as the visit to West Town Farm are made possible through opportunities, partnerships and support that enable Magic Carpet to offer meaningful creative activities.
By supporting Magic Carpet, funders can help sustain opportunities for adults to explore their creativity, build relationships, develop confidence and enjoy experiences that might otherwise be out of reach.
Because everyone deserves the chance to try something new, feel a sense of belonging and make memories that matter.
