Devon-based bed and mattress company, Naturalmat, has donated two new mattresses to local charity, Exeter Community Initiatives (ECI).
The brand-new mattresses have been distributed to a teenage boy and a mum recovering from surgery – both of whom are receiving support from ECI’s Family Resource project.
ECI helps people in Exeter and the surrounding area to improve wellbeing and build skills, supports families facing challenges and hardships, and helps communities to thrive.
ECI’s Family Resource Manager, Daisy Binnie, said: ” Getting a good night’s sleep is a basic need and key to supporting mental and physical wellbeing so we are very grateful to Naturalmat for their generous donation. We often support families in financial difficulties and mattresses are an essential item in the home but are expensive to replace, particularly at the moment given the cost-of-living crisis.”
Founded over 20 years ago, award-winning Naturalmat is located at Odhams Wharf in Topsham. The company pioneered the production of completely natural, organic and sustainable beds and mattresses. Its commitment to sustainable production methods has earned it global recognition as well as B Corp status.
Peter Tindall, Operations Director and co-founder of Naturalmat, said: “With many families across the UK struggling to make ends meet, children are forced to share a bed or sleep on the sofa or floor, leading to devastating effects on their health and lives. So we are delighted to be able to donate our mattresses to two families Exeter Community Initiatives works with. Our efforts at tackling bed poverty have led us to forming impactful partnerships with charities and organisations like ECI that share our vision. That’s why we’ve committed to dedicate 5% of our production capacity to tackling bed poverty by 2025.”
One of the mattress recipients, said: “My son has struggled with sleep since he’s become a teenager and we are really looking forward to this new mattress giving him the right support he needs for a good night’s sleep. His education is so important, especially as he starts at his new school and good sleep will have a huge impact on this.
“Thank you very much for this amazing mattress. Investing in new mattresses is expensive for any family, however so beneficial. To be gifted this one from NaturalMat is outstanding!”
Naturalmat will continue to donate many more mattresses to local families through ECI, and hopes this initiative will form a key part of their mission to alleviate bed poverty in their local community and beyond.
