ECI has an active board of trustees known as the ECI Council. The trustees set the strategic direction of the organisation and oversee the governance required to deliver innovative projects and programmes that meet the needs of people in Exeter and wider Devon.

We believe the ECI Council should reflect the rich and growing diversity in the communities we serve. We are aware building and sustaining diversity requires an ongoing commitment to inclusion that must find full expression in our organisational culture, values, norms and behaviours.

ECI is looking for committed and enthusiastic people with skills in one of the following areas:

Safeguarding/Child Protection

We have identified the need for a trustee that can guide and direct us in our work with children and families at risk. Ideally you will have experience of safeguarding at a strategic or senior level in children’s services and be able to give advice on relevant guidance and legislation in safeguarding children and young people, protection from sexual abuse and exploitation, and prevention of sexual harassment and abuse in the workplace.


We have identified the need for a trustee that can guide us in issues around jurisprudence for people at the margins of the legal and criminal justice system, to support existing and emergent projects and programmes. Ideally you will have experience at a strategic or senior level in one or more of the following: regional courts and magistrates, restorative justice and legal aid to vulnerable people.

We want to increase the diversity of our leadership and particularly welcome applications from people with disabilities, Black, Asian or Minority Ethnic (BAME) backgrounds, LGBT+ and from different socio-economic and educational backgrounds, as these are currently under-represented at ECI.

All trustees should have experience of making strategic decisions, excellent communication skills and be committed to the aims and ethos of ECI and be able to commit to approximately one day per month.

Trustees are supported in their voluntary role by the chairperson, other trustees and ECI management team.
