‘Together A Community’

The Farm Hill and Kinnerton Way Community Project (FHKWCP) works to actively involve the community, of all ages, in the issues that affect their lives and to improve the quality of life of those living and working in the area. It aims to empower them with the tools to make informed decisions that will aid the development of that community.

FHKWCP will achieve this through: listening, responding, facilitating change and developing community groups and activities. It will provide support and resources in response to community need.

The project is a partnership between local residents, community groups and agencies working in the area. The project already works with Exwick Community Hall, Devon Youth Services, Exeter City Council (ECC), Farm Hill Area Residents Association, Iveagh Court Residents Association, Exeter Council For Voluntary Service, Exeter Credit Union, Devon Social Services, and Exeter Primary Care Trust.

The Farm Hill and Kinnerton Way area is a mixed community, with parts of the area being fairly affluent, and other parts having significant deprivation. These statistics have meant that the area misses out on much needed funding and community development opportunities. A combination of dense housing and poor infrastructure has led to little sense of community on the estate.

A very positive recent partnership between ECC and Westbury Housing has meant that a new community hall, shop and multi-use games area are to be built. With this exciting resource, the Farm Hill and Kinnerton Way community has the potential to become a stronger community and iron out some of the problems the estate has faced in the past and develop strategies to solve problems they will face in the future.
