 Smiling boy

Our Young Parents Group is run by Alex who is one of Flying Start's Family Support Workers, supported by Connexions, The Central Health Visiting Team and a volunteer from the Life charity in Exeter.

Alex has a lot of experience fo working with families and with issues such as benefit claims, housing, domestic violence and grant finding.Child playing

Young Parent 1

The group has been running since February 2009 and began with a public launch on it's open day, which was officially opened by Belinda Belinda Belinda from Big Brother.

In the past few months we have been able to run craft sessions, we have had other professionals come in to meet young parents to offer their support; such as, a solicitor who deals with conflict between separated parents and contact issues. We have also had input from the Next Steps advisor who supports young parents to go back to work or study.

The Children's Centre has good links with diferent local agencies who are able to offer informal support in this setting and our Family Support Workers are more than happy to discuss particular needs with you and could arrange a visit from a particular agency to advise you if this is possible.

Young Parent 3

Child with toysThe Young Parents Group is a great social opportuinity for parents to meet each other as well as the social opportunities for children to play with other children.

The group runs between 1.30pm - 3.30pm on Thursdays at the Belmont Hut in the middle of Belmont Park.

Arrangements can be made for Alex from the Children's Centre to come and meet you before attending the group, if it is your first time as we appreciate that it can be daunting to come into a new group.

We look forward to meeting you!
