Strategy and Structure

STRATEGY

Our current strategy covers the period from April 2011 to March 2014. Our strategic priority areas are:

Community Development: ECI is a key player in delivering geographically focussed community development projects in Exeter. Beacon Heath, Flying Start Children’s Centre, Harvest and Community Hubs demonstrate ECI’s commitment to working at the community level. We aim to continue best practice in this area, making best use of current opportunities.

Flying Start Children and Families Services: There are a number of different opportunities to expand and develop our Flying Start Children services, including a Family Resource Service.

Partnerships, Social Enterprise & future project development: We aim to make best use of our current relationships and build new relationships in order to create the most appropriate partnerships and projects to meet unmet need, whilst developing expertise in using social enterprise models of operation.

Measuring the impact of ECI & local organisations: The competition for contracts and other funds will grow. We aim, along with other local organisations (private and third sector), to show the added value and impact that local organisations can bring as a competitive advantage by demonstrating the impact of our projects.

STRUCTURE

Each project has its own project committee made up of volunteers, local people and professionals. New projects in development are managed by a project steering group. Each project committee has two representatives on the ECI Council, which is the legal body responsible for the overall management of the charity. Members of the ECI Council are the trustees and company directors.

Major projects usually employ a project manager who is responsible for the management of staff within that project. Across the organisation, the Project Development Manager is responsible for developing new initiatives and identifying unmet needs, the Community Development Manager for support for local community groups, and the Director for managing existing projects and the overall strategic direction of the organisation. Central to our work are over 50 volunteers supporting different projects and committees throughout the organisation.
