The Project supported the Black and Minority Ethnic (BME) communities of Exeter. Ujima is a Swahili word meaning 'To build and maintain our communities together and make our sisters' and brothers' problems our problems and solve them together'. This sums up exactly what the project is about. Ujima provided direct support to existing groups/networks, identified the need for and supoprted the development of new projects/groups/networks in response to unmet needs and promoted and enabled community development by supporting Black and Minority Ethnic communities at a strategic level within the city.
The Ujima Project ran from July 2005 to March 2009.
